My name is Michael R Magno. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had to write an ‘about myself’ brief, whether personal or professional, since coming back to academia at Kennesaw State University. Nevertheless, I think it’s always a good exercise to describe yourself at different points in your life and in this case, at the start of a new (and hopefully last) spring semester. Here’s my story, abridged and for your consent.
I have been in Atlanta Georgia for the last 26 years after brief stints in New York City and Nashville, Tennessee. I am a first-generation Filipino-American, born in Jacksonville, Florida, and raised in the Gulf Coast town of Pensacola. The oldest of three siblings, I had a pretty strict but enjoyable upbringing in a Filipino, Catholic, and Navy household. My first life-changing event happened at age six when my mom purchased a piano for me. The instrument set me on a pivotal course which today has been the basis of my occupational life.
I have been a music professional for the past 40 years and have curated a satisfying and fulfilling career filled with domestic and international travel for live performances, multiple studio recording sessions, and amassing a harmonious network of allies. I am very active in the Atlanta music community and hope to utilize my communication degree from KSU to further advance my career opportunities in the music and entertainment industries.
With all that I’ve done over the years, my accomplishments were not suitably acknowledged in one space until the arrival of social media. I never thought to build a website chronicling my work and I didn’t have a routine to bookmark certain points in my life on a regular basis. Social media serves an immediate vehicle but in my opinion, is not as personal as having your own web presence. I hope to adapt a consistent mindset and use this website as a space to showcase my works, share my thoughts, and connect with others to expand my knowledge and interests.
