The Lonely Island is a comedy outfit made up of three friends: Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer. The trio formed back in 2001 in Berkeley, California, and have made a hilarious impact on the late-night show Saturday Night Live with their creative comedy clips titled, ‘SNL Digital Shorts’.
The group was hired by SNL in 2005 and unconventionally submitted their comedic short films instead of pitching them, keeping their works independent from SNL writers. These short films have become a staple in SNL programming and have made the Lonely Island a hugely popular comedy force.
Seth Adam Meyers is an American comedian, TV host, actor, writer, director, and podcaster who was born December 28, 1973. He is the host of the NBC late-night talk show Late Night with Seth Meyers. Before becoming the host of Late Night, he was on NBC's sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live from 2001 to 2014. From 2006 until he left in 2014, he was the show's head writer and an anchor for the news parody feature Weekend Update. Back in April 2024, the Lonely Island wanted to reinvigorate their YouTube presence and partnered with Meyers to initiate a coinciding podcast, which has become a success.
The podcast provides behind-the-scenes narratives, an inside view of their creative process, and talks of their other initiatives—including on of my favorite SNL shorts, Natalie's Rap. It explores how they created legendary events like this from drafting sessions to collaborating with celebrities. The podcast is the ideal friend for those who wish a closer knowledge of their work as the comedy, self-awareness, and friendship it offers reflect the vitality of their digital shorts. Natalie's Rap is still a shining example of The Lonely Island's ability to challenge expectations—in comedy as much as in music—which makes it a regular subject of debate on their podcast.

THE HUFFPOST, DEC. 12, 2024
Natalie's Rap, a highly regarded Saturday Night Live (SNL) digital short, premiered in 2006 and rapidly became a viral success. The short, starring Natalie Portman and Andy Samberg from The Lonely Island, creates a dramatic, humorous contrast between Portman's generally restrained public presence and the angry, expletive-laden rap lyrics she delivers. Portman raps about a fictitious version of herself, portrayed as an insane, rebellious personality participating in over-the-top hedonism, set over a gritty hip-hop beat. The absurdity of hearing the celebrated actress adopt such an extreme and unexpected persona fuels the laughter.creates a dramatic, humorous contrast between Portman's generally restrained public presence and the angry, expletive-laden rap lyrics she delivers.
